When I’m looking for help, I often want to know what worked for the client more than I care about what the provider saw. With that in mind, here is a case study using direct quotes from my client “D” as to what she gained from working together.
D came to me because she was unhappy with her current position, unclear about how to make things better and generally frustrated in life.
Through our partnership, which lasted 8 months / 16 sessions, we were able to make great progress both personally and professionally.
How would you describe the coaching process?
It felt like a roundabout way to get to where I needed to be, but looking back it was probably the most direct path. Definitely “transformational!”. When I first started I didn’t really know what to expect. I knew I was stuck in my life and not happy with the direction it was going but I didn’t really know what I wanted.
Now I am on track with a new career. This is something that I always wanted but couldn’t see how to get there.
What did you learn?
To articulate the values that are truly important to me. A new awareness when I am under stress and what is the true underlying cause. To discern between what thoughts were irrational fears and what is solid thinking and to take some of the emotion out of my decision-making. Also I learned a lot about patience.
What changes did you make in your approach to life?
I think I have become more comfortable or maybe less anxious with leaning into uncertainty and vulnerability of the unknown for hope of finding something better. I quit my incredibly stable career that my education supported for something entirely new and 100% commission based.
To remind myself what values are most important to me and the effects that they have on my overall wellbeing when those values are not exercised.
